Fame

Fame is one of two variables in the Reputation Title System (the other is Karma) and is also required to pursue the Virtue of Sacrifice.

  • Monster fame (as a commodity): Every creature has a fixed fame value. Tougher monsters grant more fame to the character who kills them.
  • Example: both Balron and Dragon are Level 5 fame, but the Balron’s actual fame (≈ 24,000) is higher than the Dragon’s (≈ 15,000), so it yields more fame.
  • Player fame (as a rating): Ranges from 0 to 10,000+ on an exponential scale—higher levels take disproportionately more effort. You do not gain a monster’s full fame; only a fraction is awarded per kill.
  • Crafting fame: Can be gained via Bulk Order Deeds (BODs), which is how crafters acquire titles.

How Fame Changes (approximate)

  • After slaying a creature (only if the creature’s fame exceeds your current fame):
    Fame_gained = max(0, (Fame_creature - Fame_player) / 100)

  • Rearranged (estimate a creature’s fame from a single gain):
    Fame_creature ≈ 100 * Fame_gained + Fame_player

  • After resurrection:
    Fame_lost ≈ Fame_player / 10

Titles & Display

At Level 5 fame, the honorific “Lord” or “Lady” is appended to your name.

  • Off-screen & allnames: Shows the fame-based honorific (Karma does not affect this).
  • Paperdoll: Shows both fame and karma titles.
  • Reputation Titles: If you earn a specific Reputation Title, it overrides the fame/karma honorifics on the paperdoll.
