Bushido

Bushido is the core Samurai skill, focused on honorable combat and powerful defensive techniques. With the Book of Bushido (buy from Tokuno scribes or loot from Ronin), you can use several abilities—mostly defensive—that help you survive and swiftly defeat tough foes.

Training

  • 0–30: Train at an NPC Samurai in Zento.
  • Note: Murderers can’t train below 25 from NPCs—use a Soulstone or +skill jewelry to reach 25 first.
  • 30–60: Cast Confidence.
  • 60–75: Cast Counter Attack.
  • 75–105: Cast Evasion.
  • 105–120: Cast Momentum Strike.

New Haven tip: The Bushido trainer can train you to 40 and offers an accelerated-gain quest. Buy skill before accepting the quest (you can’t buy while on it).

Fast-track method:
1) Buy up, then wear +skill jewelry to 50.
2) Use Lightning Strike to 50 “real” skill; remove jewelry and continue Lightning Strike to 110.
3) Switch to Momentum Strike (or keep Lightning Strike all the way to 120 if preferred).

Bushido-Based Enhancements

Parrying

With Bushido + Parrying, you can block with your weapon. Shield blocking gets weaker as your Bushido rises. Bushido also enables Evasion, the only way to fully avoid direct spell damage for a brief window.

Perfection

At 50+ Bushido, use Honor on a target to activate Perfection. Consecutive hits increase your damage bonus against that target.

Whirlwind Damage Bonus

Whirlwind gains bonus damage from Bushido (capped at +100):

DamageBonus = ( (Bushido / 60) × Opponents )^2

  • Example: Bushido 90, 4 enemies → (90/60 × 4)^2 = (1.5 × 4)^2 = 6^2 = 36 bonus damage per target.
  • Maxing the bonus:
  • 120 Bushido → max with 5 enemies
  • 100 Bushido → max with 6 enemies
  • Minimum 66.6 Bushido can still cap it, but needs 9 enemies

Reduced Special Move Mana Cost

If your combined combat/magic skills (e.g., Bushido, Tactics, Anatomy, etc.) reach: - 200–299 total–5 mana to special moves
- 300+ total–10 mana to special moves

Lesser Hiryu Riding

At 90 Bushido, you can use Bushido instead of Animal Taming to control and ride a Lesser Hiryu.

Notes

  • The Bushido needed for ~50% success on each ability is listed on Formulas & Game Mechanics pages (varies by ability).
  • Bushido contributes to special move success and economy, making it a strong pairing with melee skills.
